Sikh Gurdwara of Oklahoma – OK
Description

The Sikh Gurdwara of Oklahoma is a welcoming place of worship and community hub in Oklahoma City. Originally a Christian church, the congregation constructed a new, 5,000-square-foot gurdwara in 2013 to accommodate their growing community.

Key features

Symbolic doors: Following Sikh tradition, the Gurdwara likely has four entrance doors, symbolizing that people from all directions and backgrounds are welcome.

Distinctive flag: A bright orange Nishan Sahib, the Sikh flag, flies outside, clearly marking it as a Sikh place of worship.

Sacred scripture: Inside the main hall, known as the Diwan Hall, is a raised platform holding the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism.

Welcoming atmosphere: The Gurdwara is open to everyone, regardless of their faith or background. Visitors are asked to remove their shoes and cover their heads as a sign of respect.

Langar (community kitchen): A free vegetarian meal is served to all visitors in the spirit of equality and hospitality. This is a foundational practice of Sikhism.

Community hub: The Gurdwara serves as a central point for the Sikh community to gather, share, and engage in charitable activities.

Congregational worship: Regular services include listening to the Guru Granth Sahib and singing hymns, called Kirtan.
