The Alrasool Islamic Center is a multi-ethnic Shia Muslim mosque and community hub in Taylorsville, Utah, serving the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. Housed in a historic building originally constructed in 1894, the center embodies Utah's rich, diverse religious heritage. What began as a meetinghouse for European immigrant pioneers now provides a spiritual home for modern-day immigrants and families from around the world. Through its preservation of history and vibrant community programs, the Alrasool Islamic Center offers a unique place of worship, learning, and cultural exchange for all.
Key features
Historic landmark: The center is housed in the former Taylorsville-Bennion Ward Building, which was constructed in two phases in 1894 and 1910. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2023.
Unique heritage: It is the only Shia mosque in the Intermountain West region. The building has served three different faiths throughout its long history.
