KEY FEATURES

  • Architecture

Hassan Fathy Design: The mosque and school were designed by architect Hassan Fathy, who championed the use of traditional, regional building techniques. It is his only project in the Western Hemisphere.

Adobe Construction: The buildings are constructed entirely of mud brick (adobe), a sustainable and affordable material that is well-suited to the desert climate.

Nubian Domes and Vaults: The architectural style incorporates Nubian-inspired domes and vaults, which provide natural ventilation and cooling for the interior spaces.

  • Landscape and setting

Desert Oasis: Located on a remote, 8,500-acre ranch, the center offers a spiritual and geographical retreat from urban life.

Proximity to Plaza Blanca: The property includes access to Plaza Blanca, a stunning geological site of white rock formations that provides a backdrop for hiking and spiritual reflection.

High Desert Climate: The center's location at the same latitude and in a similar climate to many major Islamic regions was intentional, leveraging the natural environment for contemplation.
