Masjidul Taqwa – San Diego, CA
Description

Masjidul Taqwa, established in 1949, holds the distinction of being the oldest mosque on the West Coast and a cornerstone of San Diego's Muslim community. It is a welcoming and inclusive center that promotes human excellence and community unity through the teachings of the Holy Qur'an and the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Originally founded as Nation of Islam Temple #8, the community transitioned to mainstream Al-Islam under the leadership of Imam Warith Deen Muhammad. Today, the mosque serves as a beacon for Muslims across the Americas, particularly for the descendants of African American Muslims, sharing a rich legacy of faith and transformation. The mosque is currently embarking on an innovative "Modern Masjid, Modern Message" (MM2) project to rebuild an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and "carbon neutral" facility that blends traditional Islamic architecture with modern green design principles.
