Masjidul Taqwa, established in 1949, holds the distinction of being the oldest mosque on the West Coast and a cornerstone of San Diego's Muslim community. Originally founded as Nation of Islam Temple #8, the community transitioned to mainstream Al-Islam under the leadership of Imam Warith Deen Muhammad.
