Initially, the Hindu Society of Saskatchewan (HSS) manages the Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Saskatoon. Serving as a spiritual and cultural hub for the local Hindu community. However, the temple and society provide a welcoming and serene environment for worship, meditation, and community engagement.

Key features

Early gatherings: Moreover, the Hindu community began to form in Saskatoon in the 1960s, with members holding religious gatherings and celebrating festivals in their homes.

Establishment: In 1972, a senior monk inspired the community to build a temple, leading to the incorporation of the Vedanta Society of Saskatchewan in 1977.

First temple: The society purchased an old church building in 1981. Which was renovate and served as the first temple.

Current location: In 1984, the community moved to the current location on La Ronge Road after building a new, larger temple.

Expansion: A major expansion was completed in 2016, adding a new multipurpose community hall (Gita Bhawan), a larger commercial kitchen, and other facilities.

Daily worship: The temple holds morning and evening worship services (puja), aarti, and kirtan.

Sunday services: The regular Sunday program includes invocation, bhajans (devotional songs), and aarti. A complimentary meal (mahaprasadam) is also served to all attendees.

Festivals and celebrations: The temple celebrates major Hindu festivals, including Diwali, Navaratri, and Janmashtami.

Life-cycle ceremonies: Knowledgeable priests perform various life-cycle sacrament ceremonies (samskaras) both at the temple and off-site, including weddings, baby naming, and last rites.

Educational initiatives: Classes and seminars are offer on Hindu philosophy, ethics. And practices, including study groups on sacred texts like the Bhagavad-gita.

Meditation: The peaceful atmosphere and guided practices support spiritual growth through prayer and meditation.

Community gatherings: The temple fosters strong interpersonal connections through regular community gatherings, cultural festivals, and group activities.

Counseling and emotional support: The society provides emotional support through resources such as counseling services, peer support groups, and workshops focused on mental health.

Interfaith dialogue: The society engages with the broader community through educational outreach and interfaith dialogue.

Community outreach: The HSS works with local volunteer organizations, including the Saskatoon Food Bank, and offers English classes to newcomers.

Youth programs: Youth clubs and a Sunday school (Bal Bharati) offer cultural and religious education for children and adolescents.

Seniors groups: The HSS organizes events and groups to foster social connection among senior members.

Volunteer opportunities: The temple run by dedicated volunteers, with ample opportunities for community members to participate.

Temple rental: The Gita Bhawan available for rent at a nominal cost for private functions and community events.
