Description

The Sikh Gurdwara Sahib of San Jose, located at 3636 Gurdwara Ave, San Jose, CA 95148 in the Evergreen neighborhood, is one of the largest Sikh temples outside India. Founded in 1984 by Jit Singh Bainiwal, Teja Singh, Pyara Singh Obhi and other community leaders, it serves thousands of worshippers every week. The complex spans 40 acres and includes a large Diwan (prayer) hall, a school wing for Punjabi, Gurbani and Kirtan instruction, a full community kitchen (Langar) serving free meals, sports courts, and a free health clinic. Construction proceeded in phases, with Phase 1 completed in 2004 and Phase 2 in 2011. The Gurdwara is open daily, welcomes people of all backgrounds, offers religious services twice a day, and emphasizes education, seva (selfless service), and community building
