Mr. Hashmi received his B.Sc. from the University of British Columbia. He went on to complete his Bachelor's of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan. Part of his law degree was completed at Oxford University in England.

Mr. Hashmi practices personal injury and other areas of law in Surrey, BC. He is fluent in French, Urdu, Punjabi, and Hindi. He also speaks Spanish. Mr. Hashmi is active in the community. Currently, he sits on the board of directors for the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association and was previously on the board of directors for the Surrey International Music Marathon.
