No surgery for Giants ace Bumgarner after dirt bike spill
San Francisco (AFP) – San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner won’t need surgery after injuring his pitching shoulder in a dirt bike accident, the team said on Tuesday.
San Francisco executive Bobby Evans said before the Giants Major League Baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers that there was no definitive timetable for Bumgarner’s return, but the Giants are preparing to be without him for two months.
“Our focus is getting him healthy,” Evans said of the left-hander, hero of the Giants’ 2014 World Series triumph.
Bumgarner sprained his shoulder and bruised some ribs in the accident in Colorado, admitting that he regretted his decision to hit the mountain trails outside of Denver.
“I realize that’s definitely not the most responsible decision I’ve made,” said Bumgarner, who had never been on the disabled list before. “It sucks not being able to be out here with my guys.”
